But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.
Those are some powerful words.
As I read this verse it blew my mind. I have read/heard it a hundred time before, but I never had that ‘ah-ha’ moment like I did the other day.
men will have to give account…
“NO! NO! NO! NO!”
“OH MY GOSH! SERIOUSLY CHILD?!”
“UUUGGGH!!! YOU ARE DRIVING ME INSANE!”
“JUST STOP IT ALREADY!”
“WOULD YOU JUST KNOCK IT OFF!”
“WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!”
….for every careless word.
I am supposed to be raising my children in the way of the Lord, yet I will lose my temper and use careless words. Careless words that sting. Careless words that seem to fit my mood at the time & not discipline with love. I know I’m not perfect, and everyone has their mistakes, but God was definitely speaking to me when I read this. He reminded me of my childhood* days when I would be disciplined and how my heart felt when careless words were spoken. It stung. It hurt.
* my parents were wonderful, but like me, they weren’t perfect either
So, my goal is to watch my words. To discipline in love & not use careless words. Because on judgement day, I don’t want to look my Father in the eye and know I hurt His precious babies.
