I know you all are probably sick of hearing about how much I am loving being in the states visiting family – but you guys – it’s all I can talk about because it’s TRUE! Since we’ve been married we’ve been away from family. It wasn’t hard when it was just the hubs and I, but then when kids came into the picture it was hard. Having to share their milestones via facebook & skype, sharing pictures instead of hugs & kisses – but it’s just the way it is and that’s that.
Since being here, the boys have grown very attached to their grandparents, aunt, uncles & cousin. I have been getting lots of time to just have “me” time, the hubs and I have been able to go run errands together without the kids & the kids have been learning that they have to listen to others instead of just “Momma” & “Daddy”.
This is a hard lesson when your kids have only had to listen to you. It’s so foreign to them and I realize that families that live near each other are very blessed because their children get that life skill early on – whereas mine are just learning it. They are doing a decent job, but it’s something that I hope we can keep up with our friends back in England. I really do believe it takes a village to raise children.
What do you think?
Do you think it’s important for your children to learn to take direction from others besides yourself?
