Lately, I’ve been consumed with researching ways to help Lucas and his speech. His speech teacher is pretty certain he has apraxia and I do see the signs myself and because it’s an actual neurological disorder I’ve been trying to give him supplements to aid in his brain development. He’s currently getting the Shaklee180 Smoothee™ in the morning with his breakfast along with Lecithin, OmegaGuard(omegas) & an Optiflora(probiotic). His speech continues to improve and we have seen him start piecing things together more so I’m hopeful that they are helping. (he has been taking them for about 3 wks consistently)
I’ve been reading loads of Mom blogs out there who have children that are diagnosed with Apraxia and it’s crazy to see the same signs in my own kiddo. I’m so thankful for their blogs so I can compare to where Lucas is & different ways to help him throughout our day. (it also helps me know that i’m not crazy with all my thoughts on the matter)
I’ve also been researching ways to help Lucas and his immune system. I thought back over this last year and seriously, he has been sick almost every other month. I mean I “get” that kids get sick but that’s just a bit much. He also seems to always get it WAY worse than us. If we have a slight cold he gets a massive cold. If ours lasts a few days, his lasts at least 7-10 days. When anyone else has a slight fever, his jumps crazy high. So, I’m planning on starting him on some Nutriferon from Shaklee. It’s an immunity booster & I know that he needs it. (and yes we’ve had our house checked for mold – i get asked this every time one of us gets sick)
He has his 3yr well check coming up in a few weeks so I’m going to be requesting that he gets a full blood work & possibly get some allergy testing done. I am just afraid he is very deficient because his bm’s are always terrible & if they are that loose than he’s definitely NOT absorbing the nutrients his body needs. I’ve tried diet changes & the Optiflora (probiotic) has helped a TON but it’s still not consistently better so I’d rather just get the results and go from there.
I know I sound like a total nut job, but when you KNOW in your gut something is wrong – even if you don’t have absolute answers yet – you just have to push for them! So that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to be the pushy, annoying, demanding Mom.
I was not paid/compensated for this post regarding Shaklee. These are my own thoughts & opinions on the products. If you’d like to discuss any of the products listed, please contact me & I’ll be happy to do so!
