Last week was quite a week.
As you know my kids have been *mostly* sick free for a while now…unlike the plague that hit our home from October-May of last year. Anyway, Cohen came down with a fever and I just figured he had picked up a virus at school so I kept him home and doubled him up on his Incredivites. His fever wasn’t too bad. I only had to give him some children’s Advil a few times. (I don’t like to give it to them unless their fever is over 102, or they act like they’re in a lot of pain since fevers are your bodies natural way of fighting off infection.)
Well, the fever seemed to die down over the weekend and by Monday he was fever free and woke up Tuesday with no fever. He was soooo excited bc he knew he was able to go back to school. I picked him up that day and when he got home he didn’t move from the couch. That evening he kept telling us that his neck hurt when he turned his head. Silly me never even checked his lymph nodes!!! Ugh….then when I felt it I was floored. He seriously looked like he had mumps it was so big.
I called the on-call nurse and she suggested I take him to the ER. So I grabbed him out of bed and took him up there. 3 hours later and we still hadn’t been seen so I brought my 4.5yr sleeping boy back home.
The next morning I had to be up so we could take Lucas to the Allergist. For those of you who didn’t know, back at Christmas I had made my great-grandmas famous nut roll recipe & Lucas loved it. He ate it, happily, went down for a nap, woke up with hives. I assumed it was from the nuts but we couldn’t be sure until we could get an appointment in. Well, sure enough he tested positive for walnuts but not peanuts on the prick test. To be thorough the doctor had him give a blood sample as well. Yeah, that was a blast.
So, I was given epipens & instructions for his school on his nut allergy. To be on the safe side he said to just label it as all nuts.
Back to Cohen. I get home from that appointment only to take Cohen to his appointment for his swollen tonsils/lymph nodes. We do in, he had a slight temperature but not much & they did a normal exam on him. They said his tonsils were so swollen that they were almost “kissing”, how great is that. So they told me because he didn’t have many of the other symptoms you usually have with strep, they really thought it was just a virus but they’d test him anyway.
Well it was positive. So then I got to get tested. Thankfully it was a negative and no one else in the house has gotten it!
Back to Lucas. A few days ago Lucas wanted a snack and we had some old animal crackers up in the cabinet. I didn’t think twice about it and gave him a few. Not even an hour later that kid had hives all over. I grabbed the bag and saw, “may contain nuts”. Oh – way-to-freaking-go-michelle. Thankfully that was the only reaction he had so I gave him some benadryl and put so me lotion on the hives to stop the itching. Ugh. Poor guy, I felt so bad.
Oh, and the girls – they are still teething all 4 of their molars.
It’s been fun. 🙂
I think that’s it. Oh, I have a few reviews coming up on some pretty fantastic products. You’ll love them bc I love them and they’re awesome & you’re awesome. You see how that works right there??? 🙂
